The video installation,
file no. ic54-0015s, emulates a record extracted from a larger narrative dataset. Composed of a series of circular aggregations, the work presents a sequence of states where conditions recur, recalibrate and resist definitive resolution. Caught between a barrier and the pace of change induces a refusal to stay immobile, a refusal to succumb to the barrier. Distant systems operate with similar logics as those which appear intimate — feedback loops, saturation, thresholds and drift. With audio constructed from sonified astronomical data, the aesthetic collapse distinctions of scale and origin. Functioning as documentation rather than depiction, signal accumulates without annotation; regulation emerges as both a structuring and a narrowing force — only producing legibility through exclusions. As a record, the installation remains deliberately incomplete. The work does not resolve into diagnosis, explanation nor narrative clarity. Instead, meaning arises through repetition and oscillation— continuously forming, dissolving and recalibrating without final resolution. The work is intended to draw on the mechanistic ideal of synthetic biology and adjacent processes, contrasted with the strange messiness of sentient life.
