Saturday Mornings is an experimental short video work emulating the inner workings of the mind grappling with divergent realities. Delayed and disruptive intrusions meld conflicting thoughts and emotions, layering, abstracting and distorting, blending anxieties with hard truths. The work creates juxtapositions, interweaving imagery from an everyday Canadian context with war cartoons from the 1940’s, to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a quintessential, late-20th century childhood Saturday morning. This video work presents the mind as an echo chamber where past and present, reality and fiction, intermingle and amplify. The blending of anxieties with tangible truths reflects the mind’s capacity to magnify worries.
